I posted a few months ago stating that i was driving down the parkway and my '98 K1500 shut off and wouldn't start. It would turn over but wouldn't start. All dash warning lights also went out. The fuel pump was good but wasn't geting power. I pulled and tested every fuese in the truck. turned out the the fuese to the pump wasn't geting power. It would only start when placed on the scanner looking for codes.
Turned out the wireing for the factory securty system located in the steering column wire harness had fuesed together and shorted out. Replaced the column and reset the securety system and so far all is good.

I had that problem when I ripped out my aftermarket Alarm that was in my truck when I bought it. I was removing wire after wire. Testing the truck as I went along. I got to a certain point that the truck wouldn't start anymore. Found that the factory alarm needed to be energized even if it wasn't being used; otherwise it would just not let the truck run.

Guys, any idea on how to defunk the factory security alarm? I use my 2000 K1500 as a work vehicle and had to pull the horn fuse due to the amount of times i go in and out of the truck everyday. Of course the lights still flash....Do i need to go into the door panels and "deal with" the switch on the lock cylinders, or can i just locate and kill the module output? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
