yes, back then the two cars were actually different. the camaro and firebird didnt become clones untill the third gens came around. Back then ponitac had its own engines that were different from chevy, and used different options and equipment. the body panels are different, and so is the interior.

Actually the 3rd gen Camaros and Firebirds aren't clones of each other either.
Rear fenders are different.
Front fenders different and not interchangeable
Hood different and not interchangeable
Front & rear bumper covers different
About the only body part you could swap are the doors
now the engines and such are interchangeable but some rearrangement would need to be done on some of the accessories.

The main structure on a thirdgen is the same between camaros and firebirds. Things like t-tops and windows all interchange, as well as rear hatches.
