Voltmeter Question HELP Please???? 1997 Z-71

My voltmeter usually reads a little over the 14 volt mark. Started going to the left a little bit which seemed odd, so I took the battery and had it checked and yep it was bad. Bought new battery, but still having the same problem. Took the alternator off and had it checked today. They (Alternator Specialist, NOT Advance or the other one--the Zone one. LOL), said it was fine. I cleaned the battery contacts and the belt is fine. Can ANYONE gelp me?? The truck runs just as good as it ever has, but that guage has never fell below the 14 volt mark. Thanks in advance!!

DON'T worry about it. Check the out put at the battery with a multimeter as long as you get 14 volts there you are good to go. The meters on the dash are not trust worthy.

I would check the battery cable connections at the block and starter. It might be a good idea to check their resistance to see if it is too high.

I have also heard that the wire at the back of the alternator is too small and can overheat. Take a good look at that wire.

Then you are good to go.

The only time you should change the battery is if you get 11 volts, in winter that is enough to leave you stranded

when a engine is running you should get between 13 and 14 volts. but if your not getting that then either the alternator is not charging or the battery is going bad.
