Hey guys, Have a 91 Civic DX 1.3 single carb with 140000 miles. ive had this reoccuring problem since last october, the car just looses power and sputters and i have to keep pumping the accelerator to make it go even if it jumps around the place, since october it has been to the garage more than 10 times, all honda apart from 1 carb specialist.
The following have been all checked or replaced:
Clutch
Distributor Cap and Rotor
Fuel Filter
Fuel Pump Check
Fully serviced twice
Spark Plug Leads
carb inspection & Cleanout
replaced solenoid switch on carb
Alternator/Charge Check
Could be More, cant remember
The car is not over heating, the problem has gone each time it has been looked at which is weird and it usually comes back in about 5 weeks but this time it lasted almost 4 months.
I happened today for the first time and i wasnt driving it hard or anything, it just lost power. Tried it about 30 min later and was ok for about a minute before starting spluttering
I know the tappets need adjusting but it cant be them, can smell petrol when it splutters,
Any ideas? Is it worth the while fixing or should i just go get a new car

mine did something like this for a short time. the screw flew out of the rotor and damaged some sensor inside the distributor. the crank angle sensor kept going off after the engine got warm. i could make it half way around the block and i'd suddenly have no power and i'd either have to limp home or let the engine cool for a minute and then crank up and drive a little ways back at a time. problem only resolved with a new (used) alternator from ebay. dispite what everyone here told me, i couldn't find a cheap one, but the price wasn't terrible.
