I just found this site

http://www.dragonclaw.yucom.be/

The guy with the CRX is claiming the difference between the 125hp and the 165hp CRX is the Vtec system. I always tought it was because of the difference between the Single Overhead Cam and the dubble overhead cam? Or is this only true for the next gens.

 If I´m remembering right the CRX with 124hp (ED9) is also a DOHC while it doesn´t has got the VTEC system. So his statement should be right.

Yeah the ED9 is also DOHC, but the VTEC doesn't have 160hp but 'only' 150hp, I hear that mistake a lot even the dealer where I bought my car advertised the car with 160hp, I don't know why so many people think that. Also he says: quote: "the additional 5 comes from the K&N Air filter" yeah right...so that means that with my K&N filter anf my Supersprint muffler I gain 10hp

Forgot to say that with the 150hp. :)

You could have a gain of 15hp if you would put the K&N sticker on! ;)

I think he meant the whole engine not only the VTEC system...

I know all about this, I added a shiny "http://lassemann.tk"; sticker to my side windows yesterday, and today when I looked at my car through the window it looked so much faster. And when I drove it I really could feel the 100bhp+ powergain. Can't wait to fit my Supersprint muffler. :D

Also, I saw a 95 shape civic today with VEI written on it. Think it was a 1.5 and when I looked in it's engine bay (this was at a used cars dealer) it was a VTEC-E engine. Can someone tell me a bit more about VEI? Haven't seen this before..Is it a economic version of the VTEC? Knowledge is power..wish I could put alot of knowledge in my car :D

VTEC-E is an economy version of VTEC. It was sold in Ireland with a 1.5 engine. Click HERE (http://asia.vtec.net/spfeature/vtecimpl/vtec1.html) for a better explanation as I'm not very techinally minded :D

Now I think about it, it isn't really right to say the hp difference is only due to VTEC. The DOHC engine is a D-series and the B16 is a B-series (duh..) it's a completely different design. The DOHC has a bore x stroke of 75x90 the B16A has 81x77.4 it's a completely different engine.
Ok VTEC is the HP factor but the Civic/CRX VTEC is not just the DOHC with VTEC added. I'm not saying the DOHC isn't a good engine it's just that.....eh...well....eh.. nevermind you get my point (I Think)
Sorry, every time a 4th gen or CRX is discused I brabble too much............:bloated:

Well, basically every engine in the 4th gen Civic's and after are D-series, which means that the are basically all the same design. Look at the specs, all the 4th gen engines have the same bore of 75mm the displacement differences between the 1.3/1.4/1.5/1.6 is accomplished by making the stroke longer. Off course this is a very simple way of putting things but it's basically the story.
The DOHC is your engine but with two cams. There are lots of D16's, A6, 7, 8, 9, Z2 Z6 and probably more.

I was just saying that the B16A1 was a different engine which wasn't a sequel (?) on the other D-series. So that by saying that the only difference between the DOHC and the VTEC engines of the Civic/CRX is only 'VTEC' is not right, it'a different engine with VTEC.

amen :)

Yeah, the VEI is the model which uses VTEC-E/ LEV; thats exactly the model Ive got.
VTEC-E uses the VTEC feature of the variable valve timing for getting a real low fuel consumption. There are several Versions of the VTEC-E implementation: the D15B2 is a 90bhp 1.5l engine using the real VTEC-E (old model), the D15Z1-6 Are newr engines wich use the VTEC-E feature but they deliver about 114bhp, while the D15Z8 the VTEC-LEV feature uses and it is delivering 115bhp. VTEC-Lev uses the lower cam profile to consume fuel while the upper cam profile is designed for more power(its the highest VTEC evcolution u can get in EUR, in the US/JAP there is a 1.5l SOHC 3stage VTEC engine with 2 VTEC systems in it deliverung amazing 130bhp).

I hope u got some of the facts and explanations...
;)
