You guys have help me out a lot on other problems with this truck but this is a new one to me. I have wrench thirty years on cars for a living but I have been retired for fifteen and with the newer ones I'm starting to get lost. It's a 2000 Silverado with a 53. It seems this truck is nickel and dime me to death. I got it a few months ago and it seems there one thing and then another. OK The other day I went and tried the 4/wheel drive and when I push the 4/low I could not get it out of 4/low. It took me a half hour and finally it came out. I tried everything. Do you guys think it could be in the dash switch. I backed up shut it off did it all. I got other problems with it but I want to take one thing at a time.

Mines not 4 wheel drive but I have heard others saying that the switches go bad commonly. Do you have to be in park or nuetral to disengage 4-low?

I tried park and nuetral. I have had 4/buys my whole life This is about my tenth one. The best ones I have had was with the lockout in the front that you had to get out and turn them to lock in and the shifter was on the floor. Never had a problem with all the trucks that came that way. I just sold a Chev and a Ford which was both 4/buys to get this truck and the Ford you had to have in nuetral for 4/low. Both those trucks you could back up to get the front to unlock and now I have a truck that the front turns all the time. What a joke.

I personally havent had this problem but i have heard try rolling very slowly just a couple miles an hours at best, then while still rolling shift gear selector into nuetral and then shift out of 4 low to 2 high .
