Mosler Automotive today announced that its revolutionary Mosler MT 900S supercar has successfully completed U.S. emissions and crash testing, including California Air Resources Board (CARB) certification, and will be coming to an auto enthusiast near you by the end of 2005.

Conceived and created by automotive entrepreneur and financier Warren Mosler, the Mosler MT 900S is a 435-hp, Corvette-powered, ultra-high performance two-seat, mid-engined road car, with aggressively styled bodywork and race car heritage.

The Mosler MT 900S is an exotic road car with a truly international pedigree, says creator Warren Mosler. Now that it has passed its testing phase, it will be built in very limited numbers for a discriminating coterie of racers, collectors and investors.

The Mosler MT 900S begins with an advanced composite monocoque assembled in Florida from carbon-aluminum honeycomb structural board produced in California by Teklam, primarily to make aircraft floors and bulkheads.

Power for the Mosler MT 900S comes in the form of an iconic American powerplant a 5.7-liter Corvette LS6 powerplant with subtle modifications from stock that drives through a 6-speed manual gearbox. Double wishbone aluminum upper and chrome-moly lower three-way adjustable coil-over shocks and adjustable blade anti-roll bars translate power to the road with all of the aggressive, road-hugging handling and performance indicative of its race car roots.

Final assembly of the car s chassis, body, internals, suspension and powertrain is completed by a team of road car specialists at Breckland Technology Ltd. in East Dereham, England. There it is transformed into a stunning example of cutting-edge automotive technology and beauty, accentuated by its low-slung, flowing lines and 19- and 20-inch aluminum wheels fitted with four-wheel vented 13-inch disc brakes.

Racing versions of the Mosler MT 900 have been making their mark for several years, winning both the British GT and Spanish GT championships, and competing successfully in FIA GT championship races. Currently several international teams from England and Spain are battling for championships with the leading Ferraris, Porsches and other leading makes.

At the mid-May RAC Tourist Trophy race at Silverstone, England, three separate Mosler entries shared the starting grid for the first time and finished second, fifth and twelfth respectively and followed that with another class win at the FIA GT race in Imola, Italy. Before being dropped from the U.S. Grand Am series, MT900s won numerous races, including the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona in the GTS class.

By the end of 2005, the first 50-state legal road models will be available exclusively through one of North America s premier Corvette specialist dealers, Corvette Mike Vietro, (www.corvettemike.com), whose facility in Anaheim, California heads the U.S. distribution and sales efforts for the $189,000 Mosler MT 900S. This Mosler MT900R won its class (GTS) in the 2003 24 Hours of Daytona. Andy Wallace was one of the drivers.

Hm. About as fast as the Caterham 7 Cosworth (http://www.caterham.co.uk/showroom/index.htm), and probably much more expensive.

Which makes it nonetheless awesome.

I would give it a 7.5 out of 10.

SSC Ultimate Aero

Base Price: $654,500
Top Speed: 260 to 273 mph

The Ultimate Aero is one of the most extreme vehicles--make that one of the most extreme ideas--of which we have ever heard. It achieves such ridiculous performance with a 1,046-horsepower V-8 engine (you read that hp figure correctly), shoehorned into a car that weighs 2,640 pounds.

Just look at it! 2600 lbs and more hp 1051 is what its rated at.

Its half the weight and more power.

Whats so special? It is just some welded drag approved cage with tubular susp., some ls6, some custom fiberglass body, and BBS mags. (a kit car). They could have at least thrown some twin turbos on there.

What i would build.
done up 10 cylinder out of a viper with some nice turbos. ( Would be close to 1300hp and 800lbs, at least)

or Chevy 472 block with custom fuel injection and two turbos . If wanted it could reach 2000hp easily, but the rest of the car would not hold up including the t56 tranny.

probably the most expensive part would the body with that special composit. $189000 is way too much for it

The SSC Aero and Ultimate Aero are hand-built in Washington.

The car is built on a 1" thick or so aluminum honeycomb section, to that metal front and rear subframes are bonded and bolted together. Then a cage is built for race cars, or not for street cars.

The Entire car is made primarily out of carbon fiber. Some cars have kevlar or s-glass on some parts or as a layer, depends when its made and what options the owner choses...

The actual body you see is mostly carbon fiber. It has a base coat put down first on the body molds so you don't actually see all the carbon....

There are many parts which are all handbuilt that go into making the Mt900. Carbon is just not the theme for its lightweight and strength, but also for appearance. The entire inside cockpit is almost all visible carbon fiber twill, from the floor, doors, roof, dash, pillars, gauge pods etc...

It turned out to be the strongest car ever tested in a roll over, and when you consider how every part is vacume cured with the resin being bled out of it, you end up with VERY thin strong pieces. When you think about how something that thin is engineered into crash boxes, body panels, and the cockpit, and turns out to be one of the strongest cars out there, you realize its not just some kit car, its a well planned and designed beast.......

There are also options for the car, a lightweight version that weighs less then 2000 pounds, and you can also add a supercharger to the LS6 to get more then 600hp on it.........

I won't go too much more into it, but the car has HUGE brakes, BIG tires(do they come any wider?) its 2,000 pound weight, and 600hp optionally.... match that up with stiff race car suspension and an extremely strong chassis, you have one of the best handling cars out there..... generally speaking in all around performance numbers, this car is king

Very nice car....the rear is a little too Vette for me though.
