I guess the question really should be is the insurance NOT worth it? You have to ask yourself if you are okay with taking the financial hit on any damages that may happen and take into consideration the cost of the insurance...
How much is the shipping / insurance anyway?

$2900 for a 2 y/o bike of that size and stature sounds a lil low... I'd be suspicious.
Oh, and I won't buy a bike unless I can look it over in person, but I'm PICKY like that.

I know that there are a lot of people "selling" bikes over ebay and other places that are over seas like greese rome...etc they are selling them really really really cheep. they will not do pay pal, only western union of some other form of payment. BEWARE this sound like a rip off if I have ever heard of one.

It is a classic scam. It works a lot like the Nigerian scam. There is a lot of information on these particular scams on the US Secret Service's web page regarding internet-based scams and fraud. It is a pretty easy thing to spot though... Normally the buyer is willing to pay full price for your item (or a higher price than what the item is valued at.) The catch, they are going to send you a certified check or money order for an amount greater that the bike and you need to send the difference back to them or to someone else (normally here in the US.) In this case the bike would get shipped, your bank would charge you the difference you sent forward when the so-called check/money order bounces and you will be out a vehicle and your money and left with nothing more than a worthless paper trail that leads to nowhere. eBay is a GREAT place, just don't get ripped by the scam artist by going the rount of Western Union or some other wire transfer, or accepting a money order that is no good.

the ones that I was talking about, was the 2004 r1 on e bay for $3500. he will not take pay pal he will only do western union, and it if for preapproved buyers only. One the screen it will say that he is from some where here in the U.S., but once you e-mail him hes says he is from Athens or Rome. There are a lot of those kind of deals. I found thing like that on more than one bike, and not only on E-bay. I am not sure if it is really a scam, but it soundsd kinda sketchey to me.

depicting.. as in what.. like parting it out as in its a hot (stolen) bike?.. and if so.. that would suck to be that owner of the 998.. those puppies arent cheap
and if your looking for a bike.. i would try www.craigslist.com there you can search your local area for bikes that are selling... i found that reading through this forum.. its cool.. found a few bikes that are sketchy.. but you can actually go look at them if they arent tooooo far.. lol

Having had a bike broken by a reputable moving company, I would recommend that you have SOME sort of insurance. Before you buy any extra, though, check with your insurance company and see what they'll cover.
