one of the mods i'm wanting to make on my 94 is to relocate the gas [door] (where u put the gas in at) to behind the rear corner light. i saw it once on a honda in a magazine and it seems like a really cool idea. someone told me that it's not a safe thing to do b/c if i get rear ended the car will explode.that that is the reason they put them on the side  i'm not wanting to change the gas tank location but extend the piping about a foot or so to the rear light. is he right or would anything change at all as far a safety?

I've seen that done also and it is cool, but I can definately seen where it could be a problem. Getting rear ended could cause the piping to the gas tank to get jarred loose and leak or something. Also think about how you are going to connect the stock gas pipe to the extension. Then only way that would make sense to me is to weld it and good luck doing that. Also if you dont get every little hole plugged up on the connection between the stock pipe and extension, you could leak and even just fumes can be a serious problem.

That fear is a load of crap, man. Think about it, you'd have this same problem in a side-impact collision, wouldn't you? It's a lot harder than most people realize to burst a gas tank AND ignite the fuel in the same crash.
Besides, if you're THAT worried about it, you probably shouldn't be doing it, BUT - you could always just use rubber tubing or something instead of wedling up a pipe. Don't know how good of an idea that'd be, but it would work.

i dont know about that one man...gas is a tricky thing to work around...you decide to weld..like he said...the welding could ignite the gas on the tube...if you were going to do that safely and smartly..i would suggest replacing the WHOLE tube right from the tank so that its once piece...and also make sure get the gas level pretty damn low so that you dont have as much a risk when performing the mod on a full tank of gas, personally i wouldnt do it..cuz not only do you run the risk of igniting gas and or screwing up the tube...but you also run the risk of making the tail light like..well..shitty, if you mess up the taillight placement everyones going to be able to tell that it comes off..it might even look like it was in an accident and its loose or broken

thanks, everyone. i had been thinking of just leaving things the way they were anyway, and i may go ahead and do that. i'll talk to some customizers and see how they would do it. I was thinking that the extension would have to be welded and i knew that working around gas is a tricky thing. i wish i could remember exactly where i saw it and talk to the guy who's car i saw it on. oh well if not no biggie
