2001 Blazer - How Hot Does Yours Run?

Hey everyone?

I have a 2001 Chevy Blazer that just recently started giving me some problems. It runs at or just below the 210 mark all of the time. I just replaced the thermostat & I had hoped that the temp would stay at about 195 where it is supposed to be. After replacing the thermostat, I noticed that the radiator cap has been allowing coolant to overflow. So, I replaced the radiator cap & it's not leaking coolant anymore.

So...should I be worried that it's running at 210 or just under?

Thanks!

Im not a professional with the 2001 but my 91 runs at or below 210 all the time and when it is getting up to temp it shoots above then comes back down. I wouldnt worry about it

Not to worry....I have a 1999 and it runs just below the 210 mark...when actually measuring the coolant temperature using the CarChipEX it registers 194 - 199.4 most of the time.

A 195-degree stat begins to open at 194 and will be fully open around 198-199....which registers just below the 210 tick on your gauge.....

I bet if you were to measure actual temp you find you are getting the same readings....

That said..it does not preclude you from doing your routine maintenance of flushing your coolant periodically, replacing the cap and freshing up the coolant to the proper level with coolant in your 'puke-tank' etc.

Thanks for the info...I appreciate it. Would you ever suggest putting a "low-temp" in its place? When it's hot and muggy outside (Oklahoma) it runs poor at 210? Should I not worry about it? Would I do more harm by putting in a "low-temp" stat?

Also, when I have been driving with the A/C on, I notice that it pours out a TON of condensation on the driveway. Should I be worried about it? Sometimes, the condensation makes a hissing sound when it hits the ground (like it's boiling). Is there anything I can do to check this?

Thanks!

B, you dont want low temp, you want high temp, and for yankees i dont reccomend it, no need for it up here, but down south, in the summer months especally, nothing wrong with running a high temp t stat, makes the vehical think its cooler then what it is, your not realy running cooler, just keep that in mind

I'd take the radiator cap off and take a close look at the coolant, should be red/pink and clear. If it's muddy looking or has stuff floating on the top, get it flushed and changed quick. Might be a cooling fan clutch going bad too, kind of unusual but it happens.

Sounds normal to mee.

The cap should allow coolant to expand and go into the overflow, that is its job.
