98 Explorer front end noise

When I go over bumps, I have a groaning sound that comes from my front end. I can also make the same sounds by bouncing my front end when it is stopped. I replaced the upper arms (bushings and balljoints) thinking that was the problem. The noise is worse when it is hot, in the early morning or on cool days the sound is not as bad or barely noticeable. I suspect the lower bushings, but I want an opinion before I tackle that job. It has been suggested that it might be the inner tie rods since I also have some noise in my steering (groan also). Help!

Almost Always Noise In The Front Of The Exploder Is Caused By Bad Lower Ball Joints

Might check swaybar bushings, there was a recall on them

Thanks for the replies. After taking my explorer to a front end guy, I am going to replace the sway bar bushings.

Could be the torsion bar adjusters. I had a simular problem and found that the Kevlar pads on the top of the adjusters were completly worn through, causing the adjuster arm to rub against the frame rail
