4.3l problems

Put an engine in my s10 that I was told was good. I redid all the seals but the head gaskets. When I run the engine it overheats. The oil pressure is 40 at idle but even if I tap the gas it the oil pressure gauge goes off the scale. I can hear a light niose coming from the drivers side of the engine. I think all the problems are linked.

My question is when head gaskets go on 4.3l, how many of them blow out on the oil side of the gasket. Do you think my one of my heads are cracked? or is the block cracked?

Let me know if you have had this problem before and what it turned out to be. Thanks, Cory

First of all you need to check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge. Do not belive what the gauge on your dash is telling you.

Its possible that the senders are different, or the ground between the sender and the block isn't complete.

Make sure the head gasket is the problem before you tear it off. They aren't a weak point on these engines, so don't assume that first.

I would first re-bleed the coolant, then do a compression test. Pull the dipstick and check for coolant in the oil. Sometimes its obvious, other times you need to use your tongue. Don't swallow any oil, but touch some to your tongue and see if its sweet. Check for oil drops floating in your coolant too.
