I had my cd player replaced a couple years back, and since then, only my third tail light works?? Is there a way of finding out why the other 2 don't work?? Could they have wired the cd player wrong?? Also, my clock doesnt stay a the right time either?? Any ideas?? Thanks

This may be unrelated, but you never know with GM vehicles... My Venture right now only has the CHMSL (3rd brake light) operable. I keep burning out bulbs in the taillights. Some of the new bulbs I have replaced work for only a short time before blowing. The problem can be traced to moisture getting into the taillight housing and causing resistance and damamging the harness and/or the circuit board for the rear lights. If it's the circuit board that is defective, then it must be replaced. Maybe when the cd player was replaced, something occured to damage the rear wiring harness, or wiring under the dash was damaged. Have you replaced your bulbs and do they work at all and then blow out again, or after replacing the bulbs do they not work at all? Have you checked the sockets in the brake lights or the rear wiring harness for any damage, i.e. scorching, burned appearance? If you have cruise control, does that work? A sign that there is a problem with your brake lights is a non-functioning cruise control, (like mine is doing right now.)I'd start by inspecting the wiring and bulb sockets and look for any other signs of damage that may have caused your brake lights to stop working.

Hmmmm.... I'll try that when I have some time. my battery wen't dead on me last night and it turned into a huge burden! What with a car doesn't? My battery hadn't been replaced since I bought the car brand new in 98, guess going dead was telling me something.

My 1997 Venture still has the original battery in it. I also know of many others in my area who still have the original battery in their GM vehicle still going strong 8,9 and even 10 years later. That is a testament to the quality that these batteries were produced, especially in this part of the country where are winters are harsh, ( up to -30f and 120'' of snow to hot summers that can reach the high 90s frequently thus using the a/c quite a bit.) As vehicles get more complex and more equipment is located in the engine compartment, battery access will continue to be a problem. My Venture van is another example, unlike the '76,'78' and 2 '81 Montes I have owned in the past where changing the battery was a piece of cake.

I would also check the multi-function switch (turn signal/dimmer switch). On most GM models, this is the main cause of the problem when only the 3rd brake lights work.
