If a tree falls in the forest, and no one is around to hear it fall, does it make a sound??
Of course it does, you morons.

Laws of physics and science. If there is air present, which there would be according to 4,000 years of recorded history, then it can be concluded that it made a sound. You can calculate the force of the tree when it hit the ground, and can therefore know how much noise it made when it induced the periodic, rapid vibrations in the air (which we know as sound waves) by measuring soil densities, surrounding foilage, air pressure, elevation, and humidity and then doing some very complicated math. Basically, because I am a genius. You should not question my powers :p
and if I must state it obviously, the tree comment was intended to show that there is an apparent difference between love and hate. What are love and hate anyways? Think about it. They are ideas, ideas which describe 2 (by definition) diametrically opposed emotions. The confusion comes when love and hate are mixed. Make no mistake, though, love and hate are not the same.

why do people hate?
who knows? Why do people love? Why do people exist? What is the meaning of life? Why? Describe the nature of the universe and provide 3 specifically general examples. Ready, go.

If you have the passion to hate something, you have the same towards love.
For everything I "don't like" , I try to balances it out by finding something that I do like.
It balances me out.

I think the two are related in the fact that they are both very powerful emotions,
And a love/hate relationship
Where you love to hate someone, can be very confusing, but I dont believe that you can really hate someone you love, more be annoyed or very angry at times (sometimes alot of the time)
But love is the primary emotion in this type of relationship, or else there would be no relationship
And as for, if we've ever ated someone something,
It depends on your definition, they are both very powerful words that are thrown around very carelessly, but I can't really think of anything that in the worst meaning of the word I've ever hated
Then again maybe I've never truely loved, but family is what I think of when thinking in this area,
But there are many forms of both hate and love IMO

Is it possible to hate something you once loved? I think it is, but I guess my question is, how do you know if it's changed or you've changed?

Good question. I once really loved this girl. Now that we are broken up I want to hate her. After a year, I still don't like what she doing or is doing but I still have love for her.

Well that's it, there's a guy that I used to love, but I don't think I hate him. But like, other things that I used to totally love, I can't stand anymore.

Another thing I have wondered was can hate be love? I've found myself hating something, then all of a sudden, I dont hate it. I actually start to like it a whole lot. Which mske me wonder if...............
when people do hateful things, is it because if the love for it? hmmmmmm.

Are you referring more to people, or inanimate objects?
Hating people is easy in a sense, until you get to know them, in which case you may actually like them a lot. But, if you're talking about objects then your emotions are very unstable, moreso than mine.

Well I was mainly refering to people. I have a friend that doesn't believe in hate or love. He calls it that "thing." For a while i believed him until I was faced with the fact that they are both real. Or that is what those feelings are. I have them. I love it. I makes me want to live. (not like I didn't want to) I like not really hating stuff and people unless I need to.

I would love to not hate people, but when you have to deal with people that are horrible, how can you not?
In short, I think they are two very different emotions, that are rarely seriously felt, people just label what they think is hatred or love. Overused terms, we should come up with some new ones.

I'd like to submit that the opposite of love is not hate, but rather indifference.
If you once loved someone, broke up and now hate them, you still feel something for them and they have power over you.
On the other hand, if you feel nothing - indifference - then you have removed that emotion related to them, which is opposite of having emotion for them.
The angst that is felt towards an ex is because of the feelings you still have for them. Once you have reached indifference to them, you are free. Living well is the best revenge.

Do love and hate exist in "the mind", heart, soul, or brain?

Do love and hate exist in "the mind", heart, soul, or brain?
Emotions would have to be based on what you have previously encountered in your life. Therefore I would have to go with the brain. The mind is an explanation of processes that happen in the brain. Your heart is a muscle.

Technically yes, but have you ever been so heartbroken that your chest actually hurt? I have, once. It makes you think.

you can't hate someone you don't care about. otherwise you wouldn't give a toss. and it's a strong word, a mean word. personally, i wouldn't use it lightly but i do hate my mums cat, who is a self indulgent whore. i hate tomato sauce on chips. i hate seinfield syndication. how long has that show been over anyway? so my point, and i think i had one, was towards ppl, i don't think the word hate should be used loosely.
