Is there a difference between "the brain," and "the mind"?
the brain is an organ inside your head, the mind is an intangible concept that is the result of the chemical reactions in your brain. In short, yes.

so does "the mind" think or does "the brain" think...

Technically, the brain "thinks", but the word "mind" is used to describe the characteristics of or processes by which "thinking" occurs. I don't think they can be used comparitively since the brain is tangible and the mind is not.

Your thought processes = your train of thought,
charachteristics of = What you think
I agree completely with ec437, They are seperate, the brain can be held, the mind cannot...

Brain, as stated, is the physical organ which contains electrical impulses and chemical reactions.
Mind is the consciousness granted by the sum of these physical processes.
It's mind over matter. - if you don't mind, it don't matter.

Yes. The fact that we are having this conversation is proof that the grey matter in our heads is not just sitting there, but is actively creating a consciousness.
I believe by "wake up" you were being encouraged to begin to think for yourself rather than continually ask similar questions over and over.

A few hundred years ago they thought the brain was a useless organ and that thought came from spirits whizzing around in the empty spaces of your head, like the septum...
A few thousand years ago, I think they were closer, in believing that thoughts and feeling were generated by the heart and not the brain,
Again in there knowlage the brain was not used...
we now "know" that the brain is responsible for thoughts that are generated, we can tell this by using tests in which a concious patient has part of there scull removed and during brain surgery they use mild shocks to induce different reactions, such as a vivid smell, part of a long forgotten song, memories of childhood, loss of speech capabilities or recognition, and the normal twitches of the limbs
The brain is a complex organ and before the use of the above mentioned techniques the main way we learned about how it worked was autopsies of people who had suffered from stroke and loss use of something, like a man that can no longer put together a face, just sees noses eyes and mouths, so the part of the brain that was liquified by the stroke was facial recognition
Again, The brain is an organ,
The mind is the individual processes of thoughts that your brain uses as opposed to other peoples

This thread is :gay: The brain is a physical piece of matter inside the cranium. The mind is metaphysical. It's each person's own thoughts, beliefs, actions, that are produced by the brains nerves and pulses.

The mind is an explanation of the physical processes that happen in the brain. The mind does not really exist. We are all car guys here, lets take the word racing, racing is a word to describe certian actions taken by a driver of a car. Thats all the mind is, its a word used to describe the actions taken by the physical brain.

Sure, I might have emotional problems, but damnit these are some of the stupidest questions I have ever seen.
The brain is everything, the mind is nothing but a description of processes that occur in the brain.
Try to follow me here:
Right now I am typing, what is typing? It is using my fingers to press down keys in a certian order to spell out words.
What is me pressing down keys in a certian order to spell words without using the word typing to describe it? It is STILL pressing down keys in a certian order to spell out words even if we dont use the word typing to describe it.
Do you get where I am trying to go with that?
What is the mind without the brain? Nothing. What is the brain without the mind? The brain.

According to what I have read in this thread concerning the definition of "the brain" and "the mind."
The brain is an organ inside of a humans skull which produces chemical reactions we call the thinking process or "the mind"
Cause=Brain (exists physically)
Effect=Mind (exists metaphysically)
Without the brain the mind is nothing.
Is this accurate?
