I have an intermitent problem with my A/C and I'd like to know if any of you could direct me to the source. See when I first start the A/C it will cool for about 20-25 minutes then it shuts down. After stopping the truck for a half hour the A/C will start again will not last as long as the first time 1-2 minutes. Could this be a relay problem of some kind?

what shuts down the compressor or the switch panel? could it be freezing up? could be a bad compressor?

When it shuts down, pull over and take a look at the accumulator (near the passenger side firewall). If it is iced up, then the evaporator is iced up restricting air flow thru it.

If it is icing up, then the pressure cycling switch is bad or you have too much freon in the system.

when the air conditioning is running , check on the passenger side of the vehicle and see if there is water dripping out. if there is not , then the water drain is plugged. this will cause the air box to fill up with water and it will freeze and block the air flow. just unplug the water drain. a small screw driver will do this.

I will be checking this out tomorrow. The truck is getting it's fifht wheel installed. Also called the dealer today and I was directed towards the pressure cycling switch. They say's it's a common problem.

Thanks all.

Very common and that is what happened on my 90 K1500. The good news is they can be replaced without removing the freon.

Thank you for your reply 2000CAYUKON....You gave me the answer to my next questions I had this morning. I opened the thread and there was my answer about removing it without loosing freon. What a timing!

I just had my '99 stop blowing cold for about 5 min, then started blowing cold again for a few min, then back to warm again, then finally back to cold and continued to work for a 5 hr drive in 95 degree heat! Weird! Only time it ever did it. No icing up and the drain was draining!
