fuel pump losing prime

I have to prime the pump every time I start the truck. Some times it primes after turning key on and off a couple times but occasionally it takes about 20 times. I just put a new fuel pump in the truck do I need to do anything like put air in the line.

Did you put the whole assembly in or just the pump? If it was just the pump, you need to look at the rubber hose that connects the pump to the metal line. These will crack and cause yoiur problem.
