My 02 dakota wouldn't start after work. Made a clicking noise like the battery was dead. Got a jump from a coworker and as I was driving home the "Check Gauges" light came on and the voltage gauge pegged all the way over to high. Radio would fade on and off and the dash and radio lights would flicker. When i got home I tried to start the engine again and I got the same clicking noise. Voltage meter does not register. Anybody have any ideas? The battery indicator on my battery shows that it has a good charge. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

get your battery load tested or go out on a limb and buy a new battery.
when the car is running stick a voltmeter to the battery terminals and see what that is .. should be around 14.5 volts.. if not it could be the alternator.
