Don't change your name. Change the car you have listed.
No one really cares about 60 foot time. R/T, 1/8 mile ( some tracks) and 1/4 mile.
Any mods done to your 1997 GTP?

[QUOTE=bnaylor3400]Why?? What is the significance of a 0 - 60 mph time? :dunno:
The significance of 0-60mph time is how fast a vehicle can go from dead stop to highway speed. It's the measurement most car manufacturers, magazines, and advertising goons use to try and showcase the car's acceleration. Deeper however, is that you can make a good estimate of the car's power/weight ratio after knowing the 0-60mph time.
But anyway, I assume that's a resounding "no" from everyone... Just wanted to see if anyone has knocked more than a second off of stock GTP numbers...: 97-03 6.8 sec (approx.)
04-05 6.5 sec (3.29 axle), 6.6 sec (2.93 axle)

If you read Rip's reply, I think you will see that guys that race find the 0 to 60 foot mark is what they shoot for. When you run your car at the stirp you get a slip that list;
0-60ft
1/8 mile
1/4 mile
trap speed
and R/T
If the companies want to show their 0 to 60 MPH, good for them. Guys (and girls) that race, want the other times.
Hope this helps.
Have a good day.

Yeah, I got that. You didn't tell me anything that I didn't already know..... :) I was just curious as to whether or not anyone has ever timed themselves (or car, rather) in seconds, running to 60mph. I'm completely aware that it means next to nothing in strip racing; I was just wondering with all these mod'd cars out here, hasn't anyone ever been curious about too? But I guess not......thanks anyway.
And the reason I wanted an answer that didn't come from a calculator, was because if you use one you get an answer like: 2.6741852679 seconds. In which case, they have a car that beats a Ferrari Enzo, a Saleen S7, and a McLaren F1.......

Seeing that most of the racing I do is on US 19. And the speed limit is 55. And I have never lost a race to a Mustang GT, I'd say whatever Ford has posted for that car is my 0-60 MPH time.

Thats news to me. I always thought power to weight ratio was based on power in horsepower and weight in pounds to determine the power to weight ratio. You divide one by the other. :dunno:
BTW - Its going to be very difficult, if not impossible to drop off 1 second or more off the 0 - 60 mph times from a stock GTP compared to the experts at the magazines. Just my 2 cents. :2cents:

I said that 0-60mph time GIVES YOU A GOOD IDEA of any given vehicle's power/weight ratio. When you divide them, it gives you a number like .090, or .088, or .114. And when you get to the .1 (tenth), it usually means that the vehicle gets to 60 in 5.0 seconds.
i.e. The GTP weighs about 3600 lbs. 260HP/3600lbs. = .072 (about the 6.6 seconds to 60mph).
A 2003 'Vette Z06 weighs approx. 3300 lbs. 405HP/3300lbs. = .122 (better than 5.0 seconds--closer to 4.5 seconds).
The formula works in most cases......

Looks good in theory and on paper but there's the realworld. The 3600 lbs (3583) on an '04 GTP is the curb weight. Who's driving the car?
BTW - On the '04 Corvette Z06 the curb weight was reduced and the 0 -60 mph time has been recorded as low as 3.91 seconds for whatever its worth.
Like Jim (KustomKid54) said we're not trying to give you a hard time but the spec. is meaningless to most of us GTPs owners because we're modded, not stock, and that includes a lot of the '04 guys. But if you want a calculated figure based on 0 - 60 ft times, 1/8 or 1/4 time, & trap speed I am quite sure a lot will be happy to weigh in and provide that info.

Yeah, I know they dropped the weight in '04, so it's a good thing I used the '03 as an example....
Well, thank you for the info; I appreciate it very much. I'm just completely shocked that no one has ever been interested in that stat (worthless or not). Time over distance is probably the best way to measure acceleration (1/4 mile), but I still find certain mph times compelling. Like the Enzo gets up to 100 mph in 6.6 seconds. I know that it does the 1/4 in like 9-10 seconds, but I find the earlier stat equally impressive.... Anyway, thank you all.

I still have 2 gauges I want to pick up. You just want the Wife to shoot me. I was told the other day, If one more package shows up..........
Told her, "don't go out for the mail in the next few weeks, and you'll feel better". She didn't think it was funny at all.

Don't tell you me you're actually interested in the thing.:lol2: Although it could come in handy one day when someone asks you what's your 0 - 60 mph time??
I was just wondering whether the device actually works and to what degree of accuracy.
