A smart a$$ would simply reply here that they are inside your engine. =) But instead here's the information for you.
Go here:
http://www.hmaservice.com/webtech/default.asp
Next select Elantra at the top, your model year, and the engine type.
Now go to the "Shop" tab and click the "Engine Electrical System" on the left, then "Ignition System" then "Spark Plug" and it will diagram everything out for you.
Otherwise, you can simply follow the spark plug wires off the distributor cap, pull those wires which are connected to boots out of the top of your engine and WAALAA, there are the plugs. =)
An additional tip since your having difficulty locating the plugs, number the wires and the order they are placed in the engine. Take a sharpie and number the first wire on the left #1 and mark it on the engine above the hole too...do that for all 4 wires and holes. If you get the order of how the wires are inserted mixed up, you'll get a CEL and your car will not like you because your asking it to fire out of order. =)

OK...Dont mean to be the "DICK" but,
1. Elantra dont have distributors. They have "COIL PACKS"
and
2. If you cant find your spark plugs you should probably buy a manual for you car 15-20 dollars at any auto part store...
or....
You shouldnt be changing them yourself

You are correct however I don't know what Hyundai did or did not do to the 2000 Elantra. The safe assumption was to assume it had a distributor cap. Besides I did say follow the wires.

If you want a good mechanical manual go with the Haynes brand one. I have it for my '99 (I think the manual covers 96 or 97 through 2001). It has great info and lots of pics of what they are talking about.

Also note that while the Hyundai site is excellent, there is a bug in their registration process. You complete the registration, hit submit, and are told a password will be sent to your email address, but it never comes. If you go back to the login page and click on "Forgot password", then they will send your password to you. (At least that's how it worked for me this past week.)
