My son's 5.2L JGC has Quadra-Trak. After he replced the front driver's side CV joint/half shaft, he has had problems with the vehicle spontaneously locking into 4WD on hard pavement - like while backing or manuevering in a parking lot. I do not know it these things are relaed but it is very suspicious that the symptom began after the repair. I thought it may have been unequal tire pressure but we have ruled that out. Its difficult to feel good about driving it around because you know that something it wrong in the transmission or transfer case. Has anyone experienced this problem? Thank you for your stories!

sounds like the VC is going bad, Make sure the fluid level is right in the Transfer Case.

If nothing is wrong with your trasfer case they you might have done something wrong putting in the joint.
If the trie spins fine with the front axle off the ground and the Transfer case in "N" it might not be the Trasfer case.
If the Joint has a problem then the Transfer case just might be doing it's job by sending power to the front axle, senseing slip or drag.
when the VC in the Transfer case go's bad it's still able to drive on pavement but just has problems when turning. Like the above post check the trasfer case and see if the fluid is ok, if you have never changed the fluid it may be time to, it's very easy with only a filler and drain plug on the back of the case.
It uses Trans fluid, so no big-e.

I really dont know what he would have done to make it act like it is doing. Sounds more like the VC is going bad in the transfer case. Iddont know what year it is pre-96 had more problems than later years. I agree check the fluid and change it if needed.

I know what your saying but it started when they changed the joint...Keeping both eyes open it could be the cvjoint, something simple as out of round balls in the joint or bad casting, or even lack of grease. I bought bran new lower ball joints for my GTO and when I got the first inspection done the guy showed me how they were bad, the dorks at TRW made 2 bad ball joints, I was in the bay the whole time and he rocked the joint right in front of me....
