Hey, I have a 1979 Trans Am with four wheel disc brakes. I am planning on sending it down to a local tire shop to get a brake job and/or new tires. Does anybody have an idea of how much this brake job should cost? I'm guessing it would be no more than $600, worst case scenerio. It does need all new brake lines, which I know should run somewhere around a hundred bucks. Also, they'll have to get the emergency brake working, so that'll need to be figured into the cost. This place that I'm sending it charges less than $50/hour for labor. If anybody can help me out with the cost of such a brake job for my Trans Am it would be helpful.

well i converted my 79 to rear discs using original pieces. unfortunately the rear discs and calipers are the most expensive. i think the discs alone were a hundred and some, plus the calipers. and those came in pricey also. i paid about $120 for stainless brake lines front to back and another $50 for flexible stainless braided brake line hose (3 pieces). The front calipers are about $30 a piece. and my front discs were still good. course i did all the work myself, so maybe that gave you some idea what to expect.

helllo, i just replaced my front brakes a few weeks ago. Are you sure you need your back brakes replaced, from what i heard those last longer then the front ones. Make sure your not jus throwing your money away. I had paid $65 for front brakes ( i recomend you to get Brute force brake pads) very good brakes high quality! Also, i know some friends from a high school and they had changed my brakes for FREE in auto class! ha you cant beat that. so my total expense was $65 .. the point is maybe you can get an auto class to do it. i watched them do it jus to make sure they werent messing anything up, but everything went well. Call around for estimates it gives you a good idea of whats cheap and whats not. B/c some places are insane!
--Hopefully my tips can help you.If not oh well , sorry, good luck.
