Maranello, April 16th 2002 ? The design prototype of the Ferrari ?FX? ? this being the production code of this limited series model which carries on the tradition of the F40 and F50 ? will debut at the ?Artedinamica: Ferrari and Maserati at the Contemporary Art Museum of Tokyo? international Exhibition. The official inauguration will be on April 26th; from April 27th to July 14th the Exhibition will be open to the public.

The Ferrari FX, which will officially be presented at the Paris Auto Show on September 26th, will bring to the road Ferrari?s most advanced technology, directly derived from the Formula 1 World Championship experience. The FX represents the ultimate expression of technological transfer from F1 to Ferrari?s road-going GTs, the conception of which has always benefited.

Ferrari builds successor to F50

Ferrari will launch the successor to the F50 at the Paris motor show in October. Currently known as the FX internally, there has been speculation the car will be named the F60, however as the F40 and F50 were named to celebrate the 40th and 50th anniversaries of the founding of Ferrari this is unlikely to be the case.

Ferrari are moving away from competing on top speed alone - the FX will be capable of 328km/h - fast enough for most people but not as fast as rivals like the McLaren F1 (384km/h) or the forthcoming Bugatti Veyron (estimated 398km/h). Instead they are focusing on general improvements in handling and performance derived from their F1 experience and are aiming to give the driver a road car as close as possible to an F1 vehicle.

The FX will have a mid-mounted completely new naturally aspirated all alloy V12 6 litre engine, more compact and weighing in around 30% less than the F50's V12. Power is likely to be around 650bhp. This engine will also find its way into the replacements for the current 456GT and 550 Maranello cars.

The gearbox will be 7 speed and may offer either conventional clutch operation or F1 style paddles on the steering wheel. Lighter clutch and gearbox will give the FX a 30% gearshift change time advantage over the current 360 F1 model.

All these improvements should give a 0-60mph figure of 3 seconds flat - currently the car is achieving 3.2 0-100km/h on the test track and Ferrari hope to get the car to 100mph in 6 seconds, beating the McLaren F1 by 0.3 seconds.

The car is designed by Pininfarina but the shape has largely been determined by exhaustive wind tunnel tests to achieve a low drag coefficient and stability at high speed. The body is also equipped with underbody venturis that develop high downforce at low speed that is maintained at the same level at high speed.

The FX will be a limited edition vehicle and production will probably not exceed 400. With a likely price tag of AUD$1.2M and about 100 orders perhaps one or two will make their way over to Australia.

"Auf dem Autosalon in Paris, im Herbst 2002 können wir einen ersten Blick auf den Nachfolger des Supersportwagens F50 werfen, der intern noch das Kürzel FX trägt, endgültig aber wahrscheinlich F60 heißen wird. Schon im Frühjahr soll der modifizierte F550 Maranello anrollen. Er debütiert sicherlich in Genf"

they won't use FX and neither will they use F60, it will be a totally different name, if they were calling it F60, everybody would expect to see a supercar every decade, and that is not what ferrari want

This car is not the production version. It is for a show on April 21st as design study or something. BUT it will be changed slitely for production. So what you see here is the F60 with a few changes when in production. That is why it's called the FX now as it's not the prodution version.:)

"The highly anticipated heir to the Ferrari F40 and F50 legends will debut at the "Artedinamica" exhibit at the Contemporary Art Museum of Tokyo on April 26. This non-traditional venue for revealing the performance flagship is partially explained by Japan being a strong market for Ferrari cars and merchandise. The FX prototype was designed by Ken Okuyama, a former Japanese stylist for Pininfarina who also penned the 2000 Pininfarina Ferrari Rossa concept.
The Ferrari FX will officially be presented at the Paris Auto Show on September 26th, when presumably the official name will be released. The two leading monikers discussed are F60 and Enzo.

The exotic FX will bring Ferrari's most advanced technology to the road, directly derived from the Italian automaker's Formula 1 World Championship experience. The carbon-fiber-intensive car will be powered by a V-12 engine producing upwards of 600 horsepower.

Also to be shown at the Tokyo exhibit will be the first drawings and scale models of the new Maserati Quattroporte, offering a sneak peek at the four-door model due to appear at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show. "

I firmly believe that it will be RWD, AWD weighs so much and is anti-F1 tech. Also, that square design is reminiscent of the Williams BMW (I saw it at the Toronto Auto show, pretty intricate around the lower back (ie, exhaust), IMO)

And there is no rear wing because it does not need it. About half of the downforce on an F1 car comes from venturis under the car, which this new supercar (and the modena) use. This car will have incredible downforce, probably at least 1000lbs worth, perhaps even enough to drive upside down at high speed. (Proof that venturis work so well: The Lotus 79 was the first to have them, and the drivers bitched so much becuse they dialled in TOO MUCH downforce)

I wonder if any will make it to Canada:rolleyes:
