I have a 98 lx d16y7. when i recieved the car it was in good condition, but over time it became tap in the head now this car was given to me from my parents my step-dad noes nothing about cars andwen i examined the head i noticed that a spark plug grommet seal was bad on the #4 cylinder i replaced it. now the tapping became more violent, and it was so bad the RMPs dropped and everything. so i took the valve cover of again and noticed 11 out of 16 rockers had alot of play to them.now thinking of everything that could happen in mind good and bad..i adjusted them.(mind u before i did this i inspected the camshaft for wear and it was fine) now the 3rd time comming around the tapping was gone but......now the engine has a hard time running and idling, gas is being splirted out my exhaust things are kinda a mess. plz if ne1 noes wats up let in on wat u think. thx

did you adjust the valves using the proper procedure and the proper feeler gauges to get the right clearances between the rocker and the cam or did you just snug all ov them up?

i would do eighter one of two things:
A) i would go get a book on how to work on this car, get the propper tools and take it one step at a time, and possible replace some rockers if they are needed...
B) i would take the car to someone who knows what they are doing and have them fix it...
C) theres a C now. lol... you could also buy a new head, either one from a d16y7 and just bolt it one... or get a d16y8 and have the vtec head... its more work though so dont do that yourself if you cant fix the d16y7 head yourself...

Defanately stop driving it if you are your gonna burn the valves. It need to be adjusted right and there will be a little valve tap when your done.
