Need help identifying my 81's Engine

My grandfather had givin me a 81 vw rabbit. It was an desial engine but someone did a engine swap so now it has unleaded. It has a carb. I havent found any of the vw rabbits to have a carb and i dont know where to find the engine i.d numbers to help me find out what it has in it. I need to know because i have to gap the points and dont know what to look for. any info would be a big help.

try 0.017 in. gap on the points.

I set the gap to .017 and it was running fine right until i got to work. then worked my ass off to come out to my car to find that it is out of gas. Iknow that it is my fault but i live in a small twon that only has one gas station that was closed and i live out of the city limits so i had a nice walk

now that is funny.
