dose it grind when you try to put it in gear, or will the shifter just not move?

I had a similar problem replacing the clutch in my '91. After taking the tranny out several times, replacing the slave cylinder, and checking the clutch fork, I finally matched up the old pressure plate with the new one I got. It looked identical, but upon further inspection, I found that the fingers at the center were not as tall on the new plate as the old ones were (prob. less than a 1/4" difference), and as a result, no matter how much force you put on the clutch fork, it couldn't disengage the clutch disc. I went with another clutch manufacturer, and I've had no problems since.

You have described almost exactly what my problems were, I'd almost guarantee that this is the problem.

p.s. If you didn't replace or have the flywheel resurfaced, do it when you take the tranny back out, or you'll kick yourself later...hum...I wonder how I know that???
