Engine swap question(s)

I have a '95 4x4 Yukon with a 5.7 TB.
It had a rod come loose at around 160,000. My mechanic swapped it out with '99 5.7 TB (less than 40,000).

My questions are:
1- Are there any differences between the year models? (water pumps Alts, etc...) Should I tell the parts shops its a '99 Engine?

2- Computer controls of the engine? Are they different?

I guess thats enough to start with.
