Okay the reason for this post is that I have found a good looking Eagle Talon for a good price. Too bad I don't really know anything about this paticular car except for the fact that if seen quite a few modified ones around were I live. So what I need to know if anyone will help me is what kind of performance upgrades can I do if I buy this car. Also should I avoid any paticular years? What about AWD? Does anyone know of any websites that have this kind of information? Any help would be appreciated. I just don't want to buy this car and then regret it.

You can do amazing mods to these cars!! The bottom end is good for hundreds and hundreds of horsepower!! Please post some more information about your particular find. That way we can better help you. DSM's have their reputation as being kind of unreliable, however, as long as you maintain it...you will be fine. Sometimes some care require more attention than others, and this is one of them.
Hope for you to soon join the DSM Family!!

There is Eagle Talon: ESi (non turbo doch around 140hp ish) and the TSi (turbo 2.0l 4g63T 210hp 210trq FWD "front wheel drive") and the TSi AWD (turbo 2.0l 4g63T 210hp 210trq AWD "all wheel drive") These cars are the exact same thing as the Eclipse in the inside (engine, interior etc.) but different on the outside (exterior). Please tell us whic Talon versions you are looking to buy.

The car that I am looking at now is the 1990 Eagle Talon (TSI?) AWD Turbo. I would just like to know what to look out for if I decide to buy this car.
The asking price is $1100 Cdn.
It has 223,000Km(138,565miles).

Just like w/any buy, the first thing I check for is blue smoke from the exhaust. This would mean the car is burning oil. Checking the clutch would be important as well, pull e-brake up, put it in first and see where it engages. Check timing belt, or make seller show you an invoice for when it was done. The idle might be crap, this is a common problem w/these car, plenty of info on this. There is a 99% chance that you will hear ticking from the engine, this is the valve lifters and you will have to learn to live w/it. Another important thing would be when your driving the car, check to see if the shifter moves (while in gear) when take your foot off the gas pedal. This is usualy an indication of a transmission problem w/these cars.
