well i was sittin at the stoplight and a red 5.0 and a fartpipe both turn right out in front of me from the other street in the intersection and i see that they are about to race, my light turns green and i get on it a little through 1st and im up on their ass and then i put it in 2nd and it accelerated for a split second and then BAM! the shit popped out of gear and made all this grinding sound and would not go back in gear, transmission sounded like it had marbles in it and it was just trashed. didn't make any sense tho, it hadn't been acting up at all.
so i manage to roll it off the road into a little driveway and when the towtruck guy got there, he knew my mechanic and a lot about manual transmissions. he says im not going to have to get a new transmission, he says it is the slave cylinder? and something about the flywheel maybe and something about some little forks in the transmission that slide on each other and release the gear when you step on the clutch.
i didn't understand a lot of what he was sayin cause he kinda talked funny. but i called my mechanic and told him what the t.t. guy had said and he said yeah thats what i thought it was going to be, not the whole trans. (cause i called him right after it happened and he said call him back after i tried to pump the clutch and put it in gear)
i dont know that much about transmissions so i guess im hoping for some knowledge on what this could possibly be.
thanks

sounds like they were describing a pressure fork failure. Its a farley common problem. When the pressure for fails, it removes the force holding the gears and clutch in place. Id say that they are either spot on, or its a failed synchro problem.

Well i know your pain. A couple days ago my T56 started popping out of reverse and grinding like a motherfucker when i try and shift it hard from first to second. Also it's making excess noise and crap. Luckily Jordan Musser (bad ass LT1 guy) lives where i'm at and said 550 for a fully rebuild on my T56 and it'd be done in a the day after i drop it off. Might be pulling it this weekend!

Not positive but i've been thinking about having it built to viper spec with better output shaft and hardened gears etc....Have to see how much extra that gets :)

my chevrolet dealer does not even have the $4000 set of tools required to work on a 6speed t-56. however he is going to look at it this morning and and i should know what it is shortly, he said it should run about $200 for everything.

well i spoke to my mechanic.
he says he hasn't taken it apart yet but it sounds like the clutch is broken and its just in there spinning around. i bought a centerforce clutch on ebay in november and had it put on and now its broke. it should be under warranty but i cant get ahold of the bastards. there not answering the phone. might have to buy another one.

You dont need 4k in tools to do the T56...
Parts alone for mine will be $350-400 for the tranny, then add a clutch and 150 labor and i'll learn to do it myself.

you talking about a t-56 6speed correct?
and it turns out its only the clutch and pressure plate and throughout bearing. mechanic said it was all busted and shattered. what could have caused this, could it have just been a defective clutch? its not like i have 500 hp or anything or like i can pop a wheelie. must have just been a piece of crap clutch.
anyway $230 for a duralast with a lifetime warranty? anyone know if duralast clutches are worth a damn?

not sure really. Yes that's for my T56 rebuild. I'm going with a spec, or maybe a centerforce...havn't really decided yet. Not sure what could have caused yours to break...how many miles does it have?
