AC Drip???

I was driving around today- out on about 45miles in 75degree weather - when I parked at a store I had water? dripping under the truck near the front pass wheel well. I know your calling me an idiot so far and you're gonna say it's condensation from running the AC - right? Well I wasn't running the AC! I've never seen this before. It has to be condensation but why?? I double checked and the air was off. Has anyone had this happen?

Defroster wasn't on by chance was it?

I think it was set to the defroster/floor setting.

If the defroster is turned on, the air conditioning compressor is active; start your car up and turn on the defroster, and you'll see the compressor engage. They do this to make sure the compressor doesn't bind up in the winter, when it doesn't get used.

Don't worry, sounds like it was condensation after all.

I figured it was. I wasn't too worried just curious. Thanks!

Long as there was no coolant mix on the ground I'd say it was the compressor.

The dryer will get condensation on it when the AC is running.

I thought it was called the condenser not the dryer.

The dondenser is in the front of the vehicle ahead of the radiator. The receiver dryer is the metal can shaped thing that's in the engine compartment near the evaporator housing.

duhh. condenser, not dondenser.

Good thing I am not a mechanic. Thanks for the info.

While we're chatting, doesn't most of the condensation occur on and drip from the evaporator?

Almost all of the condensation/moisture will come from the evaporator (thats what causes the puddle under the car) - but you'll get some "heavy dew" on the dryer and possibly one of the refrigerant lines. It's doubtful it would ever make it to the ground though - most of it would evaporate due to the heat under the hood.

The AC system is supposed to drip.

Anyone JB welding it so it doesn't doesn't know what they are doing and should cease repairing stuff that they have no clue about.
