Problems with 96 Aurora

So I have been having quite a few problems with my Aurora lately. I am not real good at diagnosing problems so I thought I would post all the symptoms and see what everyone has to say.

Symptoms:

-Replaced Fuel Pressure Regulator and fuel filter a while back to fix another problem and now there is a strong gas smell. However I see no visible leak.

-Car idle starts surging really bad and check engine light comes on when I use air conditioner

-Car surges like I am trying to accelerate when I shift into reverse sometimes. (automatic trans)

-Average gas mileage is way down


If anyone has any thoughts/suggestions I would appreciate the help!

Ummmm...I don't own an Aurora (Alero, actually) but wasn't that gas smell thing a recall with the fuel rail starting on fire???
