Thats awesome...make sure you drive the car to check transmission......ask if tuneups and oilchanges were done regularly. Thats not much, but people will post more tips....tell us how it turns out.

check engine for oil leaks ,check oil (level,blackness etc) take it for a test ride, if its a t-top car check floors for rot, (most t-tops leak in the 3rd gens and if not taken care of early rot the floor panels). i've owned 3 3rd gens and have seen many different problems that you find after you buy it.

Probably a 305 (190 HP TPI). To check take an inspection mirror and flash light and see if you can see the back of the driver side of the engine block, it will be cast into it there...5.7L or 5.0L
Test drive it and see how it idles, runs and shifts. Check the trans fluid, should be pink/red and not smell burned..if it is black/brown and or smells burned...run away!
Check the engine oil, look under the engine for leaks (on ground and on engine)
There are so many little things to look for, too many to post here.

Always smell for fumes when you turn on the engine, dont just sit in the car, goto the back and near the exhaust also around the engine. When you're driving it be sure to step on it to see if it startles or any problems come up. goodluck and hope you get it!

Looks pretty clear. Its got low miles so I would think the engine is original. If it is just check the 8th digit of the VIN number to see what engine it has.
8 = 350
F = 305
8 = 350
F = 305

Get the IROC...thats a good price for the mileage and how good it looks from here. Odds are, the IROC will last longer because of the lower mileage as well
Over 100,000 you start having problems
DID YOU DRIVE IT?

how many miles would you expect a 98 to go considering it was maintained decently? I'm looking into a used and I wanna know what I'm getting myself into especially because I'll be driving it 7 years, and estimating about 10k a year
