My friend has a 95 mustang gt standard and i have a 97 mustang gt automatic he says he will beat to bad we cant race but do you think.

No such thing as "can't race" in my book. Find a 'track' somewhere and shut up and race!

BTW if it's in a good state of tune and he's a decent driver, the 5.0/manual will have you seeing taillights.

Get to know how to launch your car, and be sure to put at least 2 carlengths on him on the holeshot, those carlengths will disappear quick when he's blasting through 3rd gear.

Are both cars stock??? if so and the guy with the 95 a decent driver you'll get owned like there's no tomorrow.

The 95 does not have all of those things stated by future303 unles hes describing his car.

By the way will a performance chip and a cold air intake make a difference on my 97 mustang gt i ordered them off of the computer havent got them yet. just wanted to know if it is gonna make a great difference.

WRONG!

1995 was the last year that ford put the 5.0 HO into the mustang.
1996 was the first year that ford put the 4.6 into the mustang.

Therefore, in 1997 your car has a 4.6 liter / 281 cubic inch overhead cam modular v8 motor. The 1995 car had the good ol' pushrod 5.0 liter / 302 cubic inch v8.

Both are good motors, but nowhere near the same. Also 1996-'98 GT cars where the first years of the 4.6 in the mustang. Also they where the 3 weakest years of the 4.6 in the mustang. The 5.0 car will beat you if he can drive worth a flip at all.

Your car is stock. So you basically wasted your money. CAI may add .5 hp on a dyno on a stock motor. The chip is absolutely uselss on a stock motor.

The put out the least amount of HP of 4.6 in any Mustang. You have the non PI heads. There are some facts.

Good news you didn't waste money on a chip if your car is an auto and you bought a good chip. A good chip will def improve the shifting of the auto tranny and drow some time in ya 1/4.

I am not sure i think the 5.0 tops it off berly.

The 97 GT had the exact same #'s as the 95 GT stock, 215hp, 285ft/lbs torque.

However, the 4.6's max torque kicks in much higher than the 5.0's torque, essentially giving the 5.0L a quicker jump of the line. I believe in the 1/4, both cars stock did the exact times (around 15seconds)
and usually the 5.0's would take off harder, but the 4.6's would catch up near the end, making them a tie always.

The 5.0L stock definitely "feels" faster though, but both in stock form are pathetic.

So what should you do to your car?? How money are you willing to spend?? How much are you willing to learn?

99% of Ebay "upgrades" are JUNK JUNK JUNK!!.

If you're gonna get a CAI, get a decent one (like K&N's FIPK) but will pay a good $100+ for a used one. And even then, only expect 5hp if lucky.

Everything else costs big $$$. If you want your car to feel like it has more balls and don't want to break the bank, I would do the following:

1. Underdrive Pullies. Buy a set of good used ones, maybe $40-50

2. Don't bother with the CAI, just take off the rubber boot and put a K&N Cone Filter in there.

3. Toss out the stock H Pipe and slap in a high flowing H/X Pipe in there ($200-300 for a new one)

That should get you a good 20hp and won't break the bank.

Oh yeah and before someone jumps in and says "You forgot gears!"

Well, gears are pretty cheap, *however* the installation price is gonna be around the $400-500 range for installation from a reputable shop, so it's not really a "cheap" upgrade.

Where do you go to get your gears done? Dad's 5.0 was $200 for the gears and another $200 for putting them in.

For "just" a Gear installation, yeah maybe $200 to do it, however I'm taking into consideration pretty much rebuilding the whole rear axle, new axle bearings, rebuilding the Trak-Lok with new clutch packs, etc.

i dont think a filter and pulleys will make u 20 hp... look in the general forum, i just posted an article where they dyno tested x and h pipes over stock and there was no noticible difference, at least not good enuff for the 200+ dollars ur gonna spend on it.
