Well this is mostly to replicate the casted valve covers on exotic European cars but you can use it for any car. For example the Ferrari valve cover has a rough surace because they use molds made out of sand and resin.

Now to the Tutorial.
You will need some Baby powder, twizzers, paper, brush (not pictured), Tamiya Clear or any clear, and paint.
http://img144.echo.cx/img144/6897/dsc004785qe.jpg
For this tutorial I will use the Enzo Ferrari's Valve covers.
http://img144.echo.cx/img144/8800/dsc004776ik.jpg
First is you get some baby powder on pour it on the paper.
http://img144.echo.cx/img144/9260/dsc004798as.jpg
Then on the parts, spray clear on them and don't let the clear dry and dump then the pieces into the powder. Don't let the clear dry because then no powder will stick to the parts
http://img144.echo.cx/img144/4219/dsc004808ye.jpg
With your twizzer flip the pieces over and over for good coverage and then brush the excess powder off.
http://img178.echo.cx/img178/4053/dsc004821jp.jpg
Wait for the clear to dry and if you touch it, its ok like I did, but try not to.
http://img178.echo.cx/img178/6021/dsc004839qk.jpg
Now just quickly brush some of the paint on and dump it again in the powder.
http://img178.echo.cx/img178/3324/dsc004840ny.jpg
http://img178.echo.cx/img178/8201/dsc004855zz.jpg
Now with twizzers again flip them over and brush off excess.
http://img178.echo.cx/img178/9619/dsc004860nt.jpg
http://img178.echo.cx/img178/6105/dsc004870jo.jpg
Now you can go over and repeat to get a better rough surface.
http://img178.echo.cx/img178/167/dsc004883ba.jpg
http://img178.echo.cx/img178/4257/dsc004892hc.jpg
After you are done and it looks like the above stage, let the layers dry and paint over it again for the finished product.

http://img178.echo.cx/img178/2982/dsc005059om.jpg
It is kind of hard to take pics of the surface but when you see it with your eyes you can clearly see it.
Also to Vric you can add this to ScaleWiki!

That could be simulated just by spray painting from a great distance. If you spray from 20" away, the paint reaches the surface very dry and creates that rough look.
Peter Johnson explains it on the Tamiya website, Enzo review.

Yeah, can add it for me because I don't really get how to do it. My real name is Daniel Lam and I'm already a member on Scalewiki. Thanks!:worshippy

Your are right but I think that is a way to lose a lot of paint even with an airbrush because you are spraying 20 inches away, and my tutorial is for hand painting. :

hey, a much easier way to do that is to spray your part with "Faux Fabric" spray paint, which gives it that texture, then just spray the part the color you want and your all set.
