Head Light glass on 94 base model

My passanger side headlight seems to be degrading on the inner piece of glass. It's cracking and breaking into little pieces like safty glass does. Is it possible to just remove the second piece and put the outer one only back on or will this not work? I'm not liking the idea of paying $525 for a new one and my local junk yards don't have any. Any awnsers or other ideas wold be great. thanks.

Whoa, wait I'm confused. So the glass on the inside of your headlight is breaking? Well you can't take them apart really because you have sealed beam headlights. But I have no idea where you can up with $525 for anything. :confused: . You can buy a whole new headlight for under $20 at any auto parts store. Personally, I'd say pull both headlights and replace them with some Sylvannia Silver Stars (like $21 per headlight). They're about the closest thing you can get to HID without any conversions or any of that. If I'm understanding you right, it's a real easy fix.

You can take the headlight unit apart, its not that hard. Its probably not degrading, its probably just a build up of film. You cant get just the glass, you would have to get the whole unit.

To take the headlight apart(this only works for 94's). Put you headlight in your oven at about 300 degrees for 10-12 minutes, and remember to preheat. When you pull it out use a couple screw drivers to pull the glass off, and remember to be careful. Once they are clean you will want to put the silicon glue stuff back around the edge of the light, put the clips back on and put it back in the oven for 10 -12 min.

Yep, I just did mine last week. I used 225 for 10 mins and the seal came off pretty easily. The film wasn't too bad to clean off....just soak it in Windex for a couple minutes to clean it off. A final thing is to make sure that you take off all the streaks before putting it back together. I thought I caught all of it, but there were a bit left so I'll just wait until later to redo it again if I have to...hopefully I don't....

Yep, nothing really special. I was using a nonscratch sponge thing but I think anything that's semi-rough should be able to take off the film. Here's the site that I followed directions from:

Just to add something else, ther bake method can be used to take apart the 95+ lexan lights as well. 99% of people never will have to do that to the lexans though.

And the inside of the 95+ lexan is painted, opposed to having a plastic casing inside it that is painted.

Yep. Only reason I had to take apart a set of 95's is because the car was flooded and there was water inside the housing.
