They redesigned the valve stem seals in 95. I am not sure if it is at the beginning of the model year or mid-year. My 95 uses about a quart per 1200 miles which is so/so but overall not bad for a 10 yr old car. Commuting in Atlanta for several years probably took its toll. Still runs virtually flawlessly, tho. Smoothest engine I have ever owned. Never been on the hook. Currently doing 80 mile round trip to work daily with no complaints and averaging 26 MPG.

Remember that the car you see in the 92 to 94 range have probably 200,000 Miles +. Half are cabs and the other are interceptors. Any car that idles for long time and is abused aint gonna run that good. The newer engine has been perfected but the old ones aint that bad. FYI 91 is a terrible year!

Yeah you are right. They did not have that in the Lincoln. The car may have been built in 91. It was still a horrible year!

the cars ive seen smoking are all pre 95.

most of the people ive talked to who owned those cars, said they started smoking around 100k, and still smoke, unless they paid the fortune to have the valve stem seals replaced. the 91-95 lincolns were horrible for that.

i have an 89 towncar that runs thru oil, but it isnt leaking it or burning it, not sure where its going. no smoke, no puddles..

the reason i was asking about the 4.6 is i like the power, but didnt want that valve stem problem, and i like the 97 towncar

kEEPING MY foot out of it and using cruise religiously on the interstate. My daily commute is 10 mi easy city and 30 miles highway. Only Motorcraft plugs and wires. If I get lead footed it drops off but if I drive it easy it is very good on gas.

i have owned 3 panthers now.

in my 94 with 3.08 gears i would regularly see over 30 mpg on the highway.

i have yet to go on a longish trip in my 2000. with 3.55 gears i am sure the best highway mpg i could get is 25.

with mixed driving i get 20 mpg now... and i don't drive easy.
