in the early 90's when the 4.6 first came out, about 100k miles they began to smoke. i noticed this on up thru the 94 model towncars, and other big fords. Due to some kind of valve or gasket going bad, i cant remember which.
i have noticed lately that the newer ones (95 and newer) dont seem to have the smoking problem after 100k. is this because people are having the correct maint. done, or did Ford improve the 4.6 beginning in the 95 model year?

1991-1995 4.6l SOHC engines have poorly designed valve seals. 1996+ engines do it as well, but not as many. And there is no time factor on when they start to leak.
It is a somewhat large job to replace them but once replaced you no longer have the problem.

my car has 167xxx miles on it and the only thing wrong with it is coolant is leaking out of my cracked intake manifold that ford is gonna have to end up replacing for free :)
