Radio light - what does it do?

I have a 2001 Silverado with the stock Delco CD player/receiver. Right besides the volume knob, there is a small indicator light, just to the upper right of the knob. I've read my manual to see what that light is for - both the radio section and the theftlock section - no answers.

Does anyone know that this little indicator light is for?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think if it's flashing, it means that there is an anti-theft code entered into the radio and if the radio is removed, it will be no good without the code. If it is not flashing, there is no code entered.
