so right now i have found out that the MAF is bad (getting another soon) so i am going to say that is the reason the car runs rich, and has a somewhat ruff idle. the gas could be getting bad as well, which would be helping that along (ruff idle).

the real problem ATM: the turbo is not boosting. i know the turbo is good (at least good enough to boost) because when i had the manifold off and was spraying the motor off with the air hose i shot it down the turbo (were you could see the turbine wheel) for a second and it spun, and pushed air out of the air outlet (the hose was taken off as well). so i am wandering if the wastegate is stuck open? would that make it unable to boost at all? and is there anyway to check for that. the guage in car is not really reading much of anything. its pretty much stuck on -7 .

it cant be the wastegate cause even if the wastegate was always all the way open you would still have some boost, whenever you give it gas do you hear it spool up?almost sounds to me like you have a hose or pipe off somewhere, did you check all your connections and make sure everything is hooked up?

yeah, everything is tight. after going over everything i realize the wastegate rod was off the pin? lol, not sure how that happened. at any rate, going to check it now, but had to come get my keys.

edit: still showing no boost. however, i took the hose off of the BOV and put my hand by it after reving it up some and there was deffently air flowing out of it rather hard. so the turbo is pulling boost? didn't see the wastegate move at all. i am about to go and get a cheep aftermarket boost guage and hook it up somewere fast so i know if just the guage is broken?

well if you drive the car you should know if you're boosting or not, you'll be able to feel (and hear) when you hit boost.

how does the stock unit measure boost? its not a 'real' boost guage right? is it linked to the MAF?

and because the maf is not working right the car is running VERY rich. i dont have a guage on it, but you can smell the leftover gas. so yes i drove it, but not very hard at all. i just wanted to let it get hot and get some working load on it.

What the hell are you trying to boost for without a functioning MAF! :banghead:

With the MAF not functioning the ECU will run the car in limp mode. This is a predetermined A/F ratio that is designed to get you to a garage/home upon critical sensor malfunction. Obviously to be safe, the car runs pig rich. I know the ECU can control boost via the BCS, but to what extent I don't know.

I think that your stock boost gauge calculates what you car should be boosting at.
