Hoppin' Up The Truck

I've been watching a lot of "Horsepower TV" on Spike. It's kinda like porn to me... :naughty:
Anyway, my '89 Sierra has a cracked exhaust manifold that needs to be replaced. If I were to replace the manifolds with, say, Edelbrock parts of some sort, would that do anything for me besides making my engine pretty? I'm thinking in terms of increased power and/or fuel economy...

Yes it would increase your Hp Iam not shure by
how much. But.....
What it would do, is decrease
the backpressure on your moter by letting
exhaust flow out better giving you more hp and
better fuel economy!
Or you can sometimes fix it with [JB weld]
and save a tons of money!!!
What ever you do good Luck [email protected]

Somebody at VIP mentioned JB Weld to me just a couple of days ago; finances being what they are, that's probably how I'll go! There is a question if increased HP and fuel economy would be enough to justify the expense of Edelbrock parts. I so want to to do it, though! :grinyes: If i get a windfall I just might...
Thanks for your reply, Jeep!

I had the same prob, a cracked exhaust mani on the driver side, JB did not work, I ordered a set of flowtech's thru JEGS for 2 bill's, and oh man what a diff, no diff in noise, "I already had a cat back dynaflow setup", as well I had installed a new slightly stronger cam about a year previous, "slightly" being relative, I put the biggest cam the computer would run with, to a racer this would be mild but for my truck it is just on the edge of too much, "I do at times have to put it in neutral to keep vacume in the proper range".
anyways the headers basicly changed the truck, shift points, power curve, top end, and even mpg,"if I stay out of the pedal".
I have owned my 91 350 2500 for 7 yrs now and a couple of nights ago I got my first ticket in 24 years,
had a job in palm springs early am start, so at 3am on highway I-10 I was clocked at 117 mph, THOUGH I DIDNT NOTICE THE SPEEDO JUST THE LIGHTS FLASHING BEHIND ME, the night before going to the same job, I was really paying attention to the speedo and it had buried and the black part came back up from the begining to 35 mph, I dont know how accurate this would be but before the mods I had trouble hitting 85 mph, I have a 410 rear and was pullin around 4 grand, not too bad for a 14 year old truck with 187.000 mi.
I dont condone this type thing, but I just had to know and it was the first time I had a chance to be on such an open stretch of highway with no other cars around, well except for the CHP that I never even saw, where he came from is a mystery to me, there was not a light to be seen in front or behind me till the flashing one's came on,
and now that I know what she'll do I am pleased and will keep speeds more on the normal side,
So headers? definately.
Though I must admitt I have yet to install a set of vortec's that are still sitting in my garage and can't imagin what these will do for my truck once installed. as well as the 454 TBI. though it's going to be quite awhile before I test these out , I can't afford many ticket's like the one I got the other night. like they say, (you play you pay).
