Oil pump question

Does anyone have any information about the oil "idiot light". My question is if it responds to oil level only, or both oil level and pressure?
I am having the following problem:
I was stopped at a redlight last night, when the light turned green I began to move without giving the car gas. I looked down and noticed that my oil idiot light was flickering. I immediately pulled over and checked the oil. I had changed it 600 miles ago, but you never know. Needless to say, the level was fine and the oil looked brand new (10W-30). I have had the car for 4 years and have never seen the oil light flicker.
I first thought that when the car was bogging down that the oil pressure dropped below the specs and threw the idiot light on. My idle is set about ~760. Any way to check the actual oil pressure at idle? Is this cause for concern? The stock gauge is reading normal at idle, cruise, and WOT.
I forced the car to bog down while sitting still a couple of times after I noticed the problem and the stock gauge didn't go down any further than where it is at idle. But the idiot light did flicker on.
Do oil pumps routinely take a shit?
Thanks guys! :smokin:

I think that it does. When my car bogged down or started to stall out.(ie low oil pressure).

I'm fairly certain it is oil-pressure related. Naturally, having less oil in your car will result in lower oil pressure as well. Seems like an oil pump problem to me, or the sensor has gone bad and tripped the light for no reason.
