Resurface Rotors?

I have a 2000 Golf with 75000 kms on it, the brake pad light came on a while ago and now I'm starting to feel the beginings of a grind so I need to get the brake pads replaced. Is it possible to just resurface the rotors on a golf? I'm a woman and concerned because the garages around here always try to rip me off. If I get them to show me the rotors how can I tell if they can just be resurfaced instead of raplaced?
Thanks!
Thanks!

it is very strange that with just 75000 kms in your golf, you want to resurface them. If ou feel some kind of bumping or whatever, it may be just the pads that need to be changed. If the surface of your disc feel terribly uneven, you may think on change them, but with that few kms, (about 40,000 miles) i don,t think you need discs yet. It is possible to resurface them, though, in case you decide to. if a Mechanic try to rip you off, find another one. Bye.
