93' Grand Cherokee Suspension

My shocks are wore out. I thought since I had to spend some more money I would lift it about 3 inches.

I do not 4 x 4 for the fun of trail riding but do use it everyday at Work, or when I Hunt and Fish. Mostly driving over and through washouts on the Beach or over uneven land.

I would like a smooth highway ride and something smoother than the bumps I get now when driving in 4 wheel drive...

I have read some of the other threads on suspension and websites to buy it at but could anybody suggest something that they have actually used. My budget is about 500.00 dollars.....

Thanks Alot....

For mild off roading, you probably don't need a 3" lift, but you can find kits on places like quadratec.com, 4wd.com, and other sites. Do a Google search for Jeep lift kits and you'll find a bunch.

Ok Thanks. Since I need shocks I think I'll just try one of those kits with 2" spacers and new shocks. I just hope my coil springs aren't worn out though.

Does anybody know if the spacer kits work out or are they to bumby....

What kind of spacers are you talking about? If they're the ones that you twist in the middle somewhere on your springs, I wouldn't recommend them because they fall out.

If they're the kind that sit on either end of the springs, it might be the mild lift you're looking for. Make sure to get shocks that are longer, too.

The kit includes the shocks and the spacers. The spacers are the type that go on top or bottom not the twist in type.....

Cool; I had the twist in type on a (very) older car, checked in 3000 miles and they were just gone.

If you could squeeze out a few more bucks...this is what I have and I LOVE the ride both on and off road. They are soft though, if you tow or carry big loads, this isn't for you...

www.suspensionconnection.com Tuff Country 3.5" EZ-Ride - 500.00

www.SummitRacing.com Rancho RS99239 adjustable rear shocks 180.00/pair and Rancho RS5194 front shocks - 80.00/pair

www.rocky-road.com Adjustable front track bar - 110.00

At the time I bought my stuff, these were the best prices around, but that may have changed...do some shopping.

No, boats normally don't have too much toung weight. You shouldn't have an issue with that. I pull my 17' run about with no problems. I did pull a friends 96 Bonneville on a u-haul trailer...that was too much :(

Good to know....

That 3.5" lift doesnt's require any additional items or alterations other than you listed ?

I think I can come up with the extra money for that....

Hey I am going to order that suspension today.

Are there any special tools that I need to install it...

SteveB05

Not really. A complete basic set will suffice. But you will need some muscles and it will take you and a friend a full day to do. Are you going to get the track bar too? I would suggest it. I ran without it using the relocating bracket in the kit and had some pretty bad bump steer. If you change that, you will need a "pickle fork" or joint separator and don't put the relocating bracket on the front. I'll take some close ups of my suspension later and post them so you can use that as a guide.

Don't order that one...thats for a Cherokee (Leaf spring rear suspension). GCs have coils all the way around and it is $509 right now.

The one thing I didn't care for, but have yet to do anything about is the relocation brackets for the brake lines. They work, but are kinda cheap.

No change required on the sway bar links. I haven't had any trouble with them.

The chrome looking tube is the new track bar. Notice it is in the factory mount on the axle side.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/302379Suspension3-med.jpg

On the frame side, you will need to take the bracket off and drill out the taper for the new mount. Not difficult but you might need to buy a $20 drill bit for it.

Here is the reloacating bracket for the rear track bar. Works fine.

Over all, if you follow the directions in the kit, its a straight forward upgrade. Enjoy!

Cookie2...

My daughter is a little green eyed over my Jeep as well. Here is her '89 Cherokee Loredo we got her a month or so ago. She is going to use my old springs with some 1 3/4 spacers and add-a-leafs to bring hers up and level.
