A few things to think about: 1)The truck looks great! 2) Definitely check your mileage 3)Find out what trim level it is and what options it has 4)Unless you absolutely have to hae 4wd, I wouldn't get 4wd; it's more things to break, and it gets worse gas mileage, and the ride is a little rougher. 5)Black vehicles look nice, but they kinda suck. My last car was black, and not only was it hot as hell, but it got dirty looking REAL fast.

YEah, I'd say that's a good deal. As long as the miles aren't too high and it's dry underneath...
kenwood guy
05-31-2005, 04:35 PM
at how many miles do you think is to high??? and I dont think I need 4x4 maybe I should wait a little bit longer????
BlenderWizard
05-31-2005, 04:41 PM
I would. If you don't need 4wd, don't get it. It's just something else that will need repairs over time, plus if that same exact truck were 2wd, u could prolly get it for $1000 or so cheaper. That $1000 means nelson tune ($385 for a 99), intake (~$200 on ebay), and you could prolly get some exhaust work done for the remaining $400. Or, skip all that and take a vacation with the money you saved.

no vacation yet LOL ill just wait but it its very hard to find a silverado with under a 100k for under 13k-12k... but I guess its like fishing you just got to wait for the big one

Hell, I feel like I got lucky. My first day looking back in march, I found an '02 with the exact options I was looking for at like the 3rd dealership I went to. 25K on the odometer. I got it for $19k, tho.

Just for refference, My truck in March '04 cost $15,500 It's a 2000, 2wd, LS 4.8L, EXSB, and had 45,000miles at purchase from a dealer with warranty.
If you want to know what is too high in your area, look up the truck on www.nadaguides.com , www.kbb.com , and/or www.edmunds.com . Look up both trade in value and and what you would expect to pay from a dealer. This will give you an idea of what numbers to play with!

I bought my 99' 9 months ago. I searched and searched I found a couple I was interested in but, I waited until I found everything I wanted and one of the big things I didn't want was 4x4. Do you know how hard it is up here to find non 4x4 Chevy Truck? I searched for 3 months before I finally bought mine.
FYI:
99' 3-Door LS 117000Kms (72000 Miles)
$16,500 CAN (13000 US Dollars)

Make sure you only get what you want, those extras cost $$$$$. '01 LT EXTCB Sportside 41K miles in oct '03 for $18,500. I got them to $1K over trade in at the last 5 minutes of the month. Amazing what the guy under his quota will do at the last moment of the month.

Also, remember you have to add in tax. That'll be another $1k tax/tags, plus it's 6 yrs old and you'll probably need to invest $400-500 right away.
I bought mine on ebay from a private owner for $7900 (99LS Ext Cab, 4.8L, 4WD, 120k mi). It needed shocks and a new water pump. After tax tags and new Rancho RSX (buy 3 get 1 free, self install) and H2O pump, it cost me about 9k. Now she runs like a champ. I gotta get some pics posted...it's the dark grey with pewter skirt...looks real nice when cleaned up.
I agree with everyone who advised to wait. If you look for a month or so, you'll find what you want.

well depends where you live on the taxes and what place you buy it. I bought mine from a chevy dealer and they included tax title and licence with the price. I did buy a extended wty and a maintance package. good thing to cuz right after I bought it the alt, battery went out then the tailgate handle broke. they replaced everything at no charge and all the parts were new, not referbs. I'm going to blow the engine before the wty expires so they will give me a new engine for $250.

Also, autos.yahoo.com has really good prices, but you have to search 300 miles or any distance from your zip code. There's an 00 2wd ext cab with 125k miles for $8500. Mine isnt a daily driver though; if it were I'd shoot for lower miles. My DD is a VW Golf TDi getting 50mpg (I LOVE that car!!!)

It just depends on what you find. Legally, the dealer is required to tell you more about a used car than the individual is. Whatever you get, pull a carfax report on it before you get it. Best $30 you'll ever spend.

I'd be careful trying to 'blow' your engine intentionally. If it determined to fail due to abuse or neglect, your warranty will be declined, then you will get to pick up the whole tab.

You should expect to pay what ever you state sales tax is. Some states don't have sales tax, some states are as high as 12%. It all depends on where you live. Don't forget you'll have to pay for title, plates and registration, not to mention full coverage insurance, if you buy from a dealer.
It adds up quick!

I pay 9 grand tell the state I pay half that and that is at 6% here. Foolish to pay these taxes. The original owner paid the tax on the full amount of the sales price so why should anyone ever pay tax on the truck again? Talk about double, triple even Quadruple taxation! Just another government rip off! Think about it! Dude buys truck new pays 30 grand pays 6% sales tax, done deal the state got its tax! Then he sells it three years later for 15 grand, again the state gets another 6%. That dude sell it after another three years for 8 grand, again the state gets another 6% of that! That is just not right. I think this country was started because of these kind of bullshit taxes.
