Hi. I'm new here so bear with me if this question has already been answered (and if possible, link me to the other threads!)
QUESTION: How the heck do I take out my stock head unit?
In my last Cavalier (a 1996), my fiance, who is *pretty* good with stereo installation had a really tough time trying to install a new head unit. First of all, the dash was a PAIN to take off, and when he did get it off, when he installed the radio it blew almost every fuse in my car (like my speedometer and stuff). I ended up having to take it into a shop to get fixed, but Best Buy, Circuit City and Good Guys wouldn't touch my car b/c they say it is such a pain to work on Cavalier's/Sunfire's. So yeah, Tweeter finally fixed it all for a whopping $300 (JUST for installation) So anyway, I am getting a new head unit, an amp and a sub and I'm having a friend install it (who use to work as a stereo guy professionally), but he hasn't worked on late model Cavi's. I wanted to get him some good instruction on how to get that damn dash off. I found this website, http://www.carstereoremoval.com/htm/stereoremovalChevroletCavalier95_00P.htm ut you have to pay to get the manual and it only goes up to the year 2000.
I know you guys can help me! And if at all possible can I get pictures too?! Thank you soooooooooo much. If you want, e-mail me at [email protected] or look for me on Yahoo! Messenger to help out.
Thank you!
(Sorry for the lengthy post!)

OK, I found a guide in the Non-Performance subpage with all the 411. NOW my question is:
DO I HAVE TO DISABLE MY AIRBAG TO TAKE OFF MY DASH??
Thanks!

I've heard people say you should disconnect your battery to disable your airbags before taking the dash apart, but I never did. May be a good idea to though. At least your on the safe side. Juse be careful not to puncture the passenger side airbag when removing the dash pad.
