I have a 1996 Nissan Altima and yesterday I noticed that my brake lights were on. I checked my headlights, the emergency brake, the brake fluid. Everything was fine. The car was driving fine and my battery was fine. The brake lights were just on, whether the engine was on or off, whether I was pressing the brakes or not. Does anyone know why it may be doing this? and if so, how can i fix? i disconnected the battery so it wouldn't die but i had the drive it today, and it drove fine, and when i got back i disconnected to battery again so it wouldn't die, but when i connected it again to take it to the mechanic, the car wouldn't start at all...help!?!

The brake light switch is under the dash near the top of the brake pedal. It is adjustable. Look for worn bushings or a broken pedal return spring that would cause the adjustment to change.

I have an identical problem with my 1994 Nissan brake lights staying on; however, I have determined, by disconnecting the wires to the brake light switch, that it is not this unit that's causing my brake lights to stay on. I am at a loss to find out the cause of the problem and wonder if you have solved your brake light problem. :nono:
