I spent 8 hours doing this in Illustrator.. tried a different way to do the spoke wheels; and the text drove me crazy. Sometimes I find doing it with pencil is much more relaxing than with Illy, but every drawing is a learning experience. My note pad is getting bigger from "lessons learned" and from your CC"s. Hope you like it... Danica sure can drive..... fast!

Man nice illustration!
I love the level of detail in your work!!!
The paint scheme makes it look like an f-16 :)
Her car has a really nice shape too.
The stuff that connects the wheels to the car (scientific term :) )
looks really good! The point of view really adds to the cars beauty.
Looks graceful from above.
I bet women will start to do really well in racing because
of their weight advantage :grinyes:

Something looks weird in the rear wheels, they look like they are on different angles, its barely noticable tho, great illustration.

Very nice drawing.
I watched the entire race. I was never that interested in open wheel race cars but knowing about Danaca a few days before got me interested. I read an article about some of the other male racers, namely Robby Gordon are complaining about her weight. It makes a difference she is about 1mph faster than some dude who might weighs close to 200lbs. I believe she set some records in qualifying or something like that.

i read the article about danica. i saw that race, as well.
in my honest feeling, robby gordon is a jealous redneck who cannot fathom that a female can possibly drive well.
granted, weight is an issue, as most of us car enthusiasts know: unsprung weight will "liberate" horsepower otherwise lost in friction. and weight creates friction. and this is why race cars are stripped down to the lightest possible arrangement.
but you can have a lighter car with an inferior driver, and a 100-pound heavier car with a superior driver, and the heavier car will win.
isn't anybody taking into account that danica is actually good at what she does? and believe me, i am no feminist. i am not politically left or anything. but danica is female, and there will always be some group of a$$holes who will find any way possible to dump on her, without actually saying the real reason: she is simpy a good driver.

I don't know anything about racing at all :) . Esp. Indy car stuff.
But she wouldn't finish 4th if she wasn't one of the best drivers in one
of the best cars out there. But to mention her weight wasn't
supposed to be a jab from me. I think it is very cool that she
has a chance to open up a sport owned by neck morons like aj foyt.
Drivers of her level are very skilled and friggin fearless. The ones that
win are the ones with the coolest head under stress, not always the
fastest in qualifying.
Gordon sounds like a hater though! Her weight unfair? Hehe...
I think she is hawt any way.
And I hope women dominate racing!!!!
But damn, no more race queens.

grant, i wasn't jabbing you back, buddy. i was making a generalized statement to whomever reads it.
i have read a few things since the indy race about danica's weight, and nobody seems to be understanding that it is actually MORE about driver skill and talent than weight (within reason -- you cannot race a dumptruck at indy and expect to win if you are the best driver).
what is also funny, is that i have forgotten who actually won the race, and find myself remembering only danica --something else that the old boy's club does not like: she has gone down in history with greater fanfare and attention than the young brit who won.

grant, i have redneck in me, too. but i know when to shut it off (mostly). when dealing with cars, it actually helps to have some redneck in us, i feel. :)

i moved to LA from Georgia. however, i am originally from norcal. my formative years and thereafter were spent in the deep south, however. i went to tractor pulls, rodeos, learned basic driveway redneck fix-it stuff. owned a few old chevys.
i'm sort of a moderate, politically. leaning to libetarian fiscally. i support our troops and would go if drafted. but i'm 35, so i doubt i'd be first pick.
i love classic GM cars like GTOs and Impalas. i had a 2dr 1957 Chevy 150, a 1961 Impala 4dr sport sedan, a 1955 Olds 88 4dr hrdtp. now i'm into jap cars. but i collect die casts of all makes. just like a redneck.

I agree that it's a bit of sour grapes re: the weight issue. The Brit who won only weighed 157 lbs... where was his objection that the Brit was 43 pounds lighter than he was? Maybe, like me, he should call Jenny Craig before casting stones... not to mention the fact that she, regarless of weight, is an excellent racer and whould have probably beaten him... For Bobby Rayhal (a Champion in his own right) and Letterman to have even signed her up, speaks volumes to her ability. Robo
