94 1.6L - Guage cluster, exhaust

Hey guys,

1) Has anyone replaced the tach-less cluster with the one from the higher-end Corolla (with a tach)? I asked a salvage place here and the guy said as long as I have a fuse for it (and the wire going from that to the dash) I should be able to just switch them around.

2) Anyone heard of Stealth exhausts?

I asked a local sport-exhaust shop what would give me a little more power, but not wake up the damn neighbourhood (there are some REALLY nasty sounding exhausts out there).

He recommended this one called "Stealth", which should give me +10hp and a nice mellow tone at idle (slightly louder while accelerating but not obnoxious).

It's a stainless muffler and he said it's quieter than Magnaflow (I think that was the one he compared it to).

Said I could get that installed (cat-back) for $410+tax.

Thanks.

Well I just added an aftermarket autometer tach 0-8k rpm. I wasn't sure where to tap the ( - ) for the pickup so I made a hole in the distributor cap and ran a wire from the internal coil.

I did nottice a slight delay in the response of the tach, or it could be something else. It only occurs between idle and about 2,000 rpm.

I hooked the power for the gauge light to the dimmer switch near th steering wheel. I hooked it up to the one of the green wires. The one I chose wasn't the correct one since dimming the dash lights increases the output to the tach light and vise versa. It's kinda neat this way... it cuts out the distraction of the other gauges and only illuminates the tach. I leave the dimmer switch somehwere between dim and bright for normal driving so both the tach and cluster are illuminated. If I had used the other green wire then it the tach and cluter would dim the same.

Stealth? that sounds like the generic ones sold at automotice parts stores... anyways for exhaust... I've found that adding a long resonator cuts out the higher pitch annoying buzz. I plan on installing a magnaflow round resonator/muffler on a friends car. 2" pipe diameter since he doesn't have any mods and isn't looking to do them. After the resonator run and chambered good flowing muffler like magnaflow or dynomax... On other forums the supreturbo dynomax muffler is fairly popular.

$400 is a lot, I've had custom exhaust done for half that.

k thanks... maybe I'll look around more for the exhaust then.

For the tach though I didn't want a standalone gauge really, but the whole assembly from the Corolla LE or whichever it is (colour-matching door handles, power windows/locks and a tach amongst other things).

I guess I'll see what happens - not really a huge priority. The muffler's sounding worse every week though. :P
