I have a 96 Jetta 2.0L that bogs down when you rev it up above ~3000 RPM. It starts and idles fine but when you rev it up it bogs down and there's a whooshing sound and then it dies. The car is driveable but will not go above 20-30 MPH. The check engine light was on and gave a code about EVAP emission vacuum leak and code P1426. I cleared those with a scanner and now the check engine light is NOT on but I still have the problem. I have swapped out the following parts with the same parts from another 96 Jetta: Knock sensor, computer, distributor, rotor button, fuel pump, and fuel filter (new). Any help is much appreciated. :screwy:

My wifee's car was doing the same thing. Her PCV filter valve was clogged all to hell and the PCV valve diapham had gone and was clogged... there was too much crank case pressure, soon as I replaced that all was well. Let me guess, your air filter is getting oil on it right? I bet the wooshing is coming from the area where the PCV diaphram is...

Thanks termites.. but after bypassing the crankcase ventilation system I think it is starving for more fuel. I have taken off the main air hose from the MAF to the throttle body and started the car. It is still doing the same thing. As soon as I revved it up a little by manually controlling the throttle from the engine side it started to bog down like it is getting too much air for the amount of fuel it has. Could it be the fuel injector pump? I have switched the fuel pressure regulator out. The Fuel pump I switched out did not work so I put the original one back in.
