oil temp gauge install?

i recently bought an autometer oil temp gauge and was wondering if anyone has installed one. The instructions say that there has to be a hole drilled and an adaptor nut welded to the pan. now i was wondering if there was any other way of installing the sender? could i tap in before the oil pressure sender? i don't want to have to drop the pan and i don't have access to a welder, so if theres any other way to do it that would be great. thanks for the help.

You should be able to tee off the oil pressure sending unit....
